I sat behind he counter, texting Aimee. She could be such a moron sometimes. I dont know why I go out with her, or why we do anything together. I really dont understand our relationship at all. But it can be pretty damn fun. Some times.
The bell jingled as someone entered the store. I looked over: a seller. I could tell by the self conscious way she tried to act casual, and how she constantly glanced over my way. She was thin and old and worn down. She had bags under her eyes, and she was pathetic.
Um, ex-excuse me? She said, weakly. As she turned to face me, I realized who it was. I didnt know her name, we didnt check stuff like that, but as she turned over by the TV I recognized her face. She had sold that TV set to us before. And some of our silvers and necklaces. She hadnt come back in time for any of them, but she still had a week left to pay off the TV. I guess I had misjudged.
Yes, mam?
I uh, I need some, some money. She was looking down, fiddling with her ring. So much for the misjudgment.
What are you going to sell?
My-Im selling... you see- its my ring. She looked up with big doe eyes. But she wasnt trying to play me. She truly felt bad. I reached out for the ring, and she dropped it into my palm. It was gold, real diamonds. She came from a decent background, the ring would suggest. The fact that she was in the King Pawn Shop would suggest otherwise.
Its an heirloom, 4 generations... So its old if that helps. she piped up, before becoming mousy and fidgety. I looked back at the ring. It was in pretty good shape considering the age. And I could use it to lure in buyers. Besides, with all the diamonds with was worth somewhere in the five thousands.
Ill give you 2500 bucks for it.
She looked up at me. But, but the other store offered close to three grand!
Then go sell it to them, because this is as close to 3 grand as Im going to get.
She looked at me again. It was late, and the other store was pretty far away, since I hadnt seen any other pawn shops around here. Shed give it to me regardless, she needed the money. She was selling an Heirloom, after all. Her friggin wedding ring!
Finally, she gave in and accepted the cash, as I accepted the ring. After she left, I felt a pang of guilt for taking advantage of her situation. She must have been so desperate, to accept half price for something that we both knew shed never get back but was obviously important to her.
I got a text from Aimee: im waiting in ur room. u hav exactly 30 mins 2 get 2 bed b4 i take off the sexy nurse outfit n return it. luv u (if u come), aimee. Some people are so desperate, I thought as I rushed for my jacket and keys so I could meet Aimees deadline, so friggin desperate.
